PC Market Shows Highest 1Q Growth

The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) announced Sunday that the Korean PC market recorded the highest growth in sales in the Asia-Pacific region excluding Japan in the first quarter of this year. According to IT market analysis by the U.S. International Data Corporation (IDC), Korea recorded sales of 1.043 million PCs between January and March, 146% more than the 424,000 sold during the same period last year.

Indonesia and Malaysia ranked second and third in terms of sales growth, and the entire Asia-Pacific market sold a total of 4.243 million PCs to record a growth of 43.4%. For manufacturers, Samsung sold 384,000 PCs in the first quarter of this year to grab a 9.1% share of the Asia-Pacific market, placing the company first in the region. China's Legend came in second with a 8.5% market share, followed by IBM (7.2%), Compaq (6%), and Hewlett Packard (5.4%).
