Hi Eric- Tonight with SUNW share price (and my bunny) blown back into the last millennium, I logged onto sun.com just to make sure somebody was home. I know you've tracked the Solaris/software face of Sun for a time, and I have given that similar focus. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprized to find BigAdmin sun.com as well as the streamlining of the Free 75 dollar Solaris <g> program. Instead of just giving you 3 CDs and no bonus binaries, it;s now a whole Webload of stuff including Solstice, Sun Management Center, Java/C++/GNU tools, i-Planet everything including the new server and Webtop, StarOffice, Windows file readers and services management, clustering, gigabit ethernet, Oracle8i (hello!?), SunScreen, Apache, and my personal favorite, the ascii animation library <g>. --- This really is something. I'd like to look at a comparison between this and NT <g>, which I'm sure is a sales kit getting a workout in the field. --- After exploring the Solaris stuff, I've become hungrier than ever for an Ultra workstation. That Ultra 5 for $1295 (ed discount) is a no brainer from an educational perspective. Similarly, even at twice that price if I were a developer... -JCJ Edit: sun.com -- sun.com
