Business/Technology Editors

LUND, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 23, 2000--SwitchCore AB (publ), which develops integrated switching devices for Internet and data communications, announced today the opening of a new office in Gothenburg, Sweden. Its Gothenburg operation will focus on R&D within new product and future standards areas. Dr. Lars Svensson will head the new office. He comes to SwitchCore from a position as senior specialist at Ericsson Mobile Communications in Lund, Sweden, where he worked in the research department. Before that, he worked with microelectronic development at leading research institutes in Belgium and the US.
SwitchCore's new development group will be located in Gothenburg to broaden its recruitment base for technically advanced personnel.
"Right now, we are recruiting a core group that will consist of a few employees," says Svensson. "I expect that the group will be complete within a few months."
Lars Svensson was trained at the University of Lund, where he presented his thesis in 1990. From 1993-1997, he worked at the Information Sciences Institute (ISI) at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he was involved with developing design methods and circuit solutions for digital electronics, which had lower than normal power consumption. His work at Ericsson led to several patent applications that covered a broad spectrum of problems ranging from circuit solutions to signal processing algorithms.
SwitchCore AB (publ) designs, develops, and markets integrated devices for data and Internet communications. The devices are sold to network equipment suppliers worldwide. The company was founded in 1997 around a three-year, microelectronic research project at the Universities of Lund and Linkoping. SwitchCore's CXE technology - in combination with its expertise in Full Custom design methodology and high-speed CMOS technology - significantly increases capacity in data and Internet switches. SwitchCore's first product family includes the CXE-16 - the world's first 16-port switching device for Gigabit Ethernet; the device can switch up to 24 million packets per second. The SwitchCore Group employs 70 people and has offices in Lund, Stockholm, and San Jose, California. The company is quoted on the OM Stockholm Exchange's O-list under the SCOR ticker.
