Elmer, I know you saw, heard this one on the AMD thread (mis-pronounced Xeon), but for folks here:

The new 700 MHz Xeon with 2 MB on die cache is about 1/2 the price of what the existing 550/2MB slot 2 Xeon was. One analyst in the interview above says it's to set up Itanium, possibly at the $3,600 price the 550 2 MB had. Hopefully, also, assembly and test savings due to the L2 being on-die, maybe also good yields warrant the "cheap" top of the line Xeon. Still a very good price at up near $2K. These two Xeons ought to further the great growth of industry standard (Intel based) servers everywhere.
