BW0556 MAY 23,2000 9:14 PACIFIC 12:14 EASTERN ( BW)(FL-STARBOX-2) StarBox Netsystems Unveils Dual Processor 1U Server; Fully Loaded iBox/SBC Server for ASPs is Most Powerful Unit on the Market Business Editors Spring ISPCON 2000 ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 23, 2000--StarBox Netsystems(TM) today unveiled the first 1U ultrathin server for ASPs capable of supporting dual high-performance Pentium(R) III CPUs. Designed from the start to support high-traffic, high-speed application service, the StarBox iBox/SBC server offers ASPs an affordable, scalable alternative to generic rackmount server products -- many of which consume 2U of valuable rack space. Being introduced at ISPCON this week (booth No. 461), the StarBox iBox/SBC has been configured to meet the advanced needs of ASPs and other service providers. Units offer high-performance Intel Premium(R) III CPUs and run off the powerful Intel 840 chipset -- with support for up to 2GB of RAMBUS memory. ASPs also have the option to install dual processors for enhanced operation for high-traffic, mission-critical application areas. The iBox/SBC utilizes a single-board PICMG computer with passive backplane and onboard Ethernet, graphics and disk interfaces. "For ASPs handling mission-critical applications for their customers, any failure can be a deal breaker," explained David Van Beveren, president and chief executive officer of StarBox Netsystems. "The fully redundant, dual processor-equipped iBox/SBC offers service providers the kind of power and safety features that can help them sleep at night knowing that any potential hardware failure can be fixed with little or no system downtime in the field." All standard iBox/SBC servers include two drive bays for installing the unit's field replaceable, high-capacity disk drives; dual, hot swappable cooling fans; and two PCI slots for SCSI, SAN or clustering expansion -- all in the same space-saving 1U form factor. As a result, these compact ASP servers can be stacked 40 or more in a standard rackmount cabinet. Additional features include a slimline CDROM, solid state hard drive for system booting and onboard temperature, voltage and intrusion monitoring. StarBox servers are also designed for easy maintenance, with no tools required for most service operations. The iBox/SBC offers a front serial port, which allows users to easily access and install TTY consoles for system monitoring. StarBox delivers its iBox family of 1U servers with Linux, NT or Solaris preinstalled, and offers bundled application packages such as the Ensim ServerXchange application server and Zeus Clustered Web Server. Target list prices for the iBox/SBC server start at less than $2,000. First shipments are scheduled for August 2000. StarBox Netsystems, The Internet Server Provider, dedicates its technical and business resources to serving ISPs and ASPs with high-performance rackmount solutions. By offering feature-rich servers, software and related products integrated into a total package, StarBox provides service providers around the world with platforms built to meet their requirements for availability, accessibility and expandability.
