If you want to resuscitate the CDMA/TDMA debate, there's better threads than this one (and much more informed parties than Gilder).

One thing that Qualcomm does is superb mixed signal design, with wide dynamic RF front ends on their receivers. Essential to make CDMA function correctly.

The NYC area is a nightmare of strong RF signals of all types, coupled with severe multipath.

I wonder if the blame in the situation you describe is poor analog design?

If the phones are the same and interoperate on all services you name that may rule out the idea (but the repeaters also suffer from these problems.)

Anyone with an RF design background who can comment?
