UAW Won't Back Gore for President Because of His Views on China Trade

A WSJ.COM News Roundup

DETROIT -- The United Auto Workers announced Tuesday it won't endorse Vice President Al Gore in his presidential bid because he supports normalized trade relations with China.

The union also said it won't support Republican nominee George W. Bush, blasting his positions on issues concerning working families.

Instead, UAW President Stephen P. Yokich said the union will look to support a third-party candidate in November's general election, possibly consumer activist Ralph Nader, who is seeking the nomination of the Green Party.
