Frank,

Stop holding back. Let it all out. How do really feel about AG?

It may not be all bad. He got Bush seven plus years ago by throwing the economy into a shambles just before the election and he is doing it again but this time he will get Smog Head instead of a sitting President. So maybe it's not so bad after all.

I have stated earlier on this forum that he should just butt out of manipulating the market and stick to monetary policy only so I really get sick when he jawbones the market down but I think that this time the half point rise has really caused grave concern after four quarter point increases. The bigger problem IMO is the impact that it will have on the rest of the world. Money is fungible and with interest rates as high as they are in the US, thanks to AG, the Euro and Yen will retreat as money flows to our banks because of the higher interest rates possibly starving the non US industrial world of needed capital and surely causing serious disruption in the non industrial world. This would eventually impact us and could start a world wide recession and worse if not contained, but who am I to question the Man.

I think that most of the cause of some, but only some, inflationary pressure is simply the affect of increased oil prices. Inflation will return to a very low level from normal market pressures and offsetting productivity gains and AG will resume his God like posturing having saved what was going to be saved in time anyway.

RCB

I believe that Greenspan was reappointed early in order to allow him to make these aggressive moves in the first half of 2000. After that the market can recover, or stabilize at least, then Mr. Gore has the ability to go into the elections with a positive economy.
