Guess what??? People ARE worried about security of
information. They aren't prepared to make matters
worse by using unsecured PC's over the internet. Every
time a virus hits the masses, fewer and fewer computer
user's get excited about using their Window's O/S for
e-commerce or even e-mail.

I don't know how much simpler I can explain it. If
someone steals your credit card, you report it stolen
and the credit card issuer takes over from there. If
you download a virus and it destroys 5 years worth of
financial records on your PC, you're just out of luck.
If someone writes an rsh daemon that installs itself
on your wide-open PC and reports back all keystrokes
to a remote site, someone else has a record of all your
passwords and account numbers if you use your PC for
internet commerce. You don't think that's a PROBLEM???

Most people aren't going to be affected, because most
people are going to avoid using the PC for internet
commerce until they are assured security. It's just
that simple. That places a lid on e-commerce growth
and an opportunity for a new technology to come along
and replace Windows as an end-user tool.

BTW: SUNW and M$FT do not compete in the same markets
except for the low-end corporate server market. Your
characterization of SUNW as "worried" about M$FT
intrusion into the enterprise O/S market is truly
laughable. Sun has a lot more to worry about from other
Unix systems than it ever will have to worry about
Windows.
