The Bible is certainly not a model for fairness is it?

Hi Steven - the current discussion of religion has been more thoughtful than most that preceded it. There's much to consider from all sides when insults aren't flying around (from any point of view).

My take on original sin (check again in an hour, it may change)-- is that the wisdom of the day was recorded as -- "Wouldn,t it be great if everything was perfect -- however, the nature of man (all the fruits of knowledge) is such that we see and are confounded by all kinds of imperfections and problems." Every human of every generation suffers a kind of curse simply be being human.

Of course, there is also the message; HEY, we'll tell you what to think or you're toast.

I don't see the removal of original sin so much as removal of a negative as the addition of a positive. I don't think Christians are alone in moving to a higher state of grace through learning and assimilation into the spiritual life of a community or culture. Ceremonies and ritual are often involved.

I believe in "God" but I think most religious practice is more about "us".

What do I know -- which, IMO, is as it should be.

Mike
