We had a groundhog in the shed. Our laidest back cat went after it and it climbed a tree like a squirrel. Came back down the handle of the net I was going to "rescue" it with the same way. Didn't do too bad on my back, ass and legs either Somebody told me that they had seen a groundhog climb a tree, but I'd never seen that myself until last week. Was out walking my puppy along the fencerow that runs down the lane. I was just looking down at the ground... probably at all of the wild strawberry plant flowers... and thinking about stuff... and not noticing anything to either side. Then, all of a sudden there was that high-pitched screechy-whistle that groundhogs make when you startle them. Gave the pup and I quite a start. I heard a bunch of scratching noise coming from the direction of a 1 1/2 foot diameter ash tree that grows in the fencerow, so I walked around to one side to see what was up in the tree. Sure enough... there was a groundhog about 10 feet above the ground. Must have been pretty good at climbing too because the tree is fairly straight... and doesn't have any branches for about the first 8 feet up... so it wasn't like he could have just scrambled up... First time I'd ever seen that.
