Softbank stops funding Chinese dotcoms

SHANGHAI (05/23) - China's Internet sector has become so treacherous that Japan's Softbank will no longer invest in pure dotcom start-ups, reports the China Daily.

The company will, however, continue to invest money in Chinese start-ups, particularly traditional companies that can increase business by building an online presence.

Softbank has two investment funds in China with a combined value of $300 million.

To date, money from the two funds has been invested in some of China's largest Internet firms, including Alibaba, Chinaquest, Sina, and 8848 among others.
