Given such a scenario, probably. At the end of the day, all financial intermediaries would likely be hurt. It's impossible to speculate to what extent the overall system would be damaged; we can only imagine, depending on the circumstances.

But do not underestimate the ability of these institutions to protect themselves. For every buyer, there is a seller after all.
