The agreement, outlined by Intel president and CEO Craig Barrett and Cable & Wireless HKT's Chief Executive Linus Cheung, contains two major elements. Focusing on small- to medium-sized businesses, Intel will offer Intel Architecture-based server platforms and Intel NetStructure(TM) communication products for Powerb@se, the newly branded data centre services of Cable & Wireless HKT. For consumers, Cable & Wireless HKT and Intel will collaborate on e-Home initiatives to drive broadband Internet deployment in Hong Kong. "Small- to medium-sized businesses are driving the Internet economy growth in Hong Kong and Asia Pacific," said Barrett. "Cable & Wireless HKT understands how these businesses can participate in the digital economy without high costs or technology barriers. The two companies will begin immediately to explore opportunities in Singapore, Korea, Taiwan and Australia to replicate the relationship announced today. Intel will assist with the value-added services deployment by playing a matchmaking role, pairing its value added reseller (VAR) partners with Cable & Wireless HKT clients. These VARS will act as an extended channel arm for Cable & Wireless HKT.
