Kash, that is not a fair comparison at all.

I remember that in 1996 my college paper did a little study. It found out that overwhelming majority of students majoring in liberal arts considered themselves democrat. And majority of students majoring in Economy or Engineering considered themselves Republican. I don't want to get into why this is, but that was the point Chic was making. Nothing more.

Kash,

OT

I don't think that anytime you find some correlation in behaviours such a finding is an evidence racism or some other bias.

For example, my guess is that students who go into business, finance, economics or management are more Republican than the rest of the population. The people in entertainment are overwhelmingly Democrat. Let's say you compare these 2 groups. The first group had a lot more formal education in economics than the others. So you have a large pool that is overwhelmingly Republican to pick superstar economist, who will end up on the board of governors of the Fed. Isn't it likely that there will be a disproportionate percentage of Republicans that would be picked for these posts, if you pick based on merit?

The same applies to the other group. You will find that most of the stars TV, cinema, journalism are Democrats. Again, you start with a pool that is overwhelmingly Democrat, so it is not surprising that the major stars are Democrats.

My subjective experience suggests the same. More of my friends who are of the left wing persuasion are very deficient even in elementary economics. On the other hand, I end up embarassed on many occasions when the discussion turns to subjects that they have a lot better grasp of than I do. And of course there are many exceptions.
