Barrera turns down fight with Hamed

Marco Antonio Barrera is the latest - and best - to turn down a bout with featherweight champion Prince Naseem Hamed, joining Johnny Tapia, Danny Romero and Juan Manuel Marquez. Barrera rejected a two-fight package worth more than $2 million from the Hamed camp. Barrera stood to make $500,000 to appear on the undercard of Hamed's Aug. 19 fight, with the doubleheader serving as a springboard to a fall pay-per-view match. For that bout, Barrera snubbed a career-high $1.6 million plus 20% of the revenue generated by Mexican TV rights, which would have added $150,000 to his take.
