i agree re. stock option compensation. it's one of the many tricks keeping the pyramid scheme going. the cost of options however is borne largely by existing shareholders via dilution. it costs the companies nothing to print up new shares. on the contrary, they get to spike their earnings artificially with tax rebates.
Bill Parish made a pretty convincing argument that e.g MSFT would scarcely have any profits at all were it not for the ESOP, put selling and various other shenanigans.

i also agree with our assessment of the psychology at work with the investment public right now. interestingly, we have yet to see SELLING. all we have up to now is a buyers strike.
