Building A New Novell.....

>>The opportunity now is for new people to come into Novell
It seems to me that the new head of the net content group is totally unconnected with Novell. He is former CEO of Just-On, the start-up Novell acquired. He will work closely with Drew to get that IOS vision commercialized. Just-On is as close to an end user product as Novell gets.

This is good. It is an internet perspective.
Now he will needs some people to work with that understand how to build an effective division and what are the good products to commercialize.

Let's give him some assistance if we can. We should all be excited because we got what you wanted and what we all wanted, a place for the people who get it to get started building the new Novell.>>

Paul:

Agree 10,000%.

I am VERY excited.

New people. New blood.

CHANGE.

Peace.

GO!!

Two thoughts:

1. I am hearing the description of Novell's failure in the channel sales to "neglecting the channel partners." They needed more training and support, etc. I have no expertise here. My concern is that the channel is angry with Novell for "going direct" to their customers. Novell has been building up a consulting business and invested in MarchFirst. Are they taking customers that were previously channel partner customers and bringing them in house. While this is often necessary when your competitors go direct and your customers want to be direct customers, it is always a difficult transition for a company. Does anyone have a better perspective on the attitude about Novell among the channel partners? It will make a big difference whether or not they can quickly improve their channel sales and relationships, or this will be very difficult, take a long time, and ultimately may not happen.

2. We have not yet seen any class action suits. I think Novell announced the best defense imagineable during the conference call. By spending all $500 million buying shares at an average price of $25, they proved conclusively that they were clueless about the falling sales and were genuinely surprised by their huge failure in the quarter. They could only be sued if they misled investors by their public statements. You can't lose for being clueless! No law against that!

IMHO
