I thought that you might. Although I grew up in Catholicism and still find meaning in the symbolism and the ritual, the sense that I had about God from earliest childhood was of boundless goodness and understanding. In that context, a sin is terrible not because of a fear of punishment but because it is an act against the goodness of life itself, a perversion of what should be good.
