Post rated (max 5) By Altogen (rating 3.20) on 19:15 05.23.00 | Read 380 times | Post 11701 After pondering the decision for quite some time, I have officially liquidated all my positions and decided to retire from trading. Certainly, by no means was this an easy decision. I have been short-term trading for 2 years. And probably like everyone here, the market has become too big a part of my life. It's taken an enormous toll on my health, personal life, career, etc. It's just not worth it, especially when Uncle Sam takes out their 40% cut (if your in a high tax bracket like me). Without a doubt, the market has to be the most negative and unproductive hobby I have ever ventured in to. The funny thing is that you would think that you would get better and better at it as you gained more experience. I will indeed say I have learned an incredible amount in my 2 years of trading, and have seen my fair share of the crazy things that drive this market. But the only real obvious conclusion I can draw is that the only way to really make an easy money in this market is when it goes straight up for three months. (Nov,Dec,Jan in 1998 & 1999). A flat, range-bound or downward market spells doom for a trader. The good news is that I am walking away only having lost most of my gains and not any of the original investment. But I feel if I had stayed any longer in this game, it would be only a matter of time before it would all go to money heaven. I walk away with 3 key lessons: 1) No matter how much money you make in the market, its never enough. 2) At some point or another, you will ultimately lose your gains because of point #1. 3) The only way to win is not to play (Joshua from WarGames) As a final farewell, I wish the MM team and everyone in this community all the best! I really enjoyed this site and the intelligent conversation that took place here. Regards, Mike
