Just checked out Dell & Gateway sights. Dell has some great offerings at great prices - Gateway is featuring Intel on their front page. The PIII 667 GTW Essential is cheaper than the 700 Athlon by $100 - but the PIII 700 Performance is $150 more than the 700 Athlon (after you back out the DVD).

I also noticed that you get an extra 5 gigs with the $1,299 700 Athlon. They start at 15 gigs vs 10. It's still amazing that you can get an extra 10 gigs for a few bucks. Before I got my VIAO 2 months ago, I was using a Fujitsu laptop with a 800 MB hard drive. And it worked just fine for normal home computing.

FWIW,

Dave

Actually I was pleasantly surprised by Dell's latest numbers, especially in the business segment. I think they are starting to regain some momentum.

I wouldn't say that they are gaining momentum (after all Y2K has come and gone and corporate sales are still slow) but at least Dell has seemed to have stabilized its fall from grace; though I wouldn't count on the stock moving in a big way any time soon.

I don't have a high opinion of gateway. They are mostly a consumer, and maybe a small mom-and-pop player.

Fortunately, that is not a general opinion and their sales continue to grow.

They are not getting any major business accounts.

Maybe so.....I guess AMD will have to work harder to get Dell as an oem.....maybe by Q3!
