Common sense and history. Mainly history. As I have said forever, averages always regress back to their mean. I wish I could pull up the chart that Lost posted a month or so ago of the Naz long term. Plot the monthly trend line, it's down around 2000. Better yet, plot the yearly graph of the NAZ and draw in the channels. 1500 is the lower line and the upper is something like 2800. We haven't even gotten in the long term channel yet, let alone the lower portion.

And before you start arguing that this is a new era, remember that the laws of supply and demand, and economic principles haven't been repealed. Every technology boom and the advent of new technologies is what keeps us in that upward rising channel. It won't put us above and keep us there for long.
