No, its a penalty for violating the law. And it might be better for MSFT than a breakup. As for my admittedly inartful and nontechnical phraseology regarding the source code, I apologize. What I am suggesting as one possible remedy (and maybe not the best one) is taking away MSFT's ownership of Windows. I would still be a long term holder if what was left was the applications businesses plus merely support/services for Windows (no sales/licenses of the OS). It is still a good stock even if that is the result.
