Legato Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:LGTO), the leader in enterprise storage management software, announced the immediate availability of Legato(R) NetWorker(R) 5.7 for Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4. In conjunction with providing data protection for Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4 platforms, NetWorker 5.7 provides seamless integration with the existing NetWorker family of servers, storage nodes, and clients, eliminating the need for multiple backup solutions, workgroup or point solutions for platform data protection. Legato NetWorker is the only consistent architectural solution available that protects enterprise-wide data on all industry leading platforms. NetWorker 5.7 delivers platform data protection of the key Windows 2000 storage management features and the foundation for future integration of Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000. With the addition of NetWorker's broad set of application specific modules, NetWorker 5.7 can protect application database, ERP and messaging environments hosted on the Microsoft Windows 2000 platform. NetWorker Module for Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 and NetWorker Module for Microsoft SQL Server 7 are available immediately for support of Windows 2000. Other NetWorker Modules will be delivered over the coming months. As Microsoft Windows 2000 advances Microsoft's platform penetration into enterprise environments, Legato NetWorker's traditional enterprise strength and experience is a natural combination for enterprise customers. "We're very excited about the powerful management tools Legato has developed for Windows 2000," said John Knie, industry marketing manger for Data Center Solutions at Microsoft Corp. "NetWorker 5.7 will help customers who manage mission critical data in a distributed environment to quickly and easily manage their business applications on Windows 2000 based servers." Developed from an early and close collaboration with the Microsoft Windows 2000 development team, NetWorker 5.7 realizes Windows 2000 data protection implementing Microsoft Windows 2000 storage management APIs. This architecture enables comprehensive protection of user and system data including: the Microsoft Active Directory service, System State, NTFS file system, ACPI/OnNow, multiple system databases, and system-protected file system.
Extending the Legato Information Continuum
NetWorker 5.7 extends the coverage of, and provides the foundation for, the Legato Information Continuum Standard Data Protection and Transparent Data Protection models, allowing customers to deploy a single solution to protect their critical data. The Legato Information Continuum defines a set of solutions that work together to protect, move, and manage information. The Information Continuum model offers four service levels based on an organization's requirements. The first level is Standard Data Protection, often referred to as backup and recovery. The second is Transparent Data Protection which allows "transparent," off-host backup and recovery. The third level is Fault Resilience which adds high availability of applications and data, minimizing the occurrence of planned or unplanned interruptions. The most advanced level, Continuous Operations, greatly extends an organization's solution to cope with site outage by automating remote-site recovery capabilities.
