I'm thinking this is just another example of Henry's piss poor communications skills. He doesn't own this company - the shareholders do. It's high time for him to cut out the secrecy crap and let me in on how he's utilizing my capital.

uf

Shouldn't that be . . .

Cuf?

That's an interesting concept, Rosa. I wonder how much flexibility the SEC allows publicly traded companies?

No, no, I think you might have missed our previous discussions on the topic, Uncle. I only meant that because GMST doesn't pre-announce when they're going to report earnings, they've got some built-in calendaric flexibility that other companies that adhere to a more rigid (and dare I say, "normal") schedule don't have. If CSCO decided not to report earnings on their scheduled day, the market would go into a panic, buy GMST can let the entire month of May come and go and all they get is our grumbling. (Although given the current share price, the concept of "slow panic" might unfortunately be appropriate.)

No disagreements there.

Much as I hate to say it, I agree with UF. I mean, if management is doing its job properly then the fundamentals will improve over time and the stock price will follow. Gaming short-term movements (either up or down, quite frankly) is a mickey-mouse maneuver not suited to the kind of gorilla we all think Gemstar is or may soon become.

Here's another theory: Henry is so shy and averse to any publicity whatsoever (remember the website?) that he simply can't bear to speak in public too often. So rather than have to have separate announcements of earnings and merger, he wants to combine them so he can get the horrid task over with as quickly as possible. I suggest we chip in and buy him some beta-blockers...
