I think your theory is probably right. I should add, though, that I played hockey obsessively up to the age of 20, and that I still play soccer, the sole American in an eclectic mob of European and South American expats. So I can justify my interest to some extent. I do object, though, to the expression "plain vanilla housewife". I would be more inclined to classify Rambi as a natural vanilla bean in a world dominated by extract. I do a good molasses cookie myself, learned it from my grandmother, who was quite the master.
