Mani,

It is also worth noting that Greenspan only wanted a 0.25 increase and not the actual 0.50 but he was out voted. I think all the Greenspan haters (not you Ted) should take note of that.

Good point.

Joe

It is encouraging to know that Greenspan is a weak leader, and is only half as stupid as the majority of the FOMC.

The last I heard the fed was not a democracy. If that has changed, please let me know.

Perhaps AGs problem is that he is not of sufficiently stern stuff to lead the fed.

The fed never says what they will do. What the fed does is give the bias toward any direction. The fed gave the tightening bias in no uncertain term. That is the most aggressive gesture they would take.

I believe they have discontinued (as of March) that approach where they signal ahead what their bias is. But no matter, there is no commitment at this point to raise interest rates again in June. That's the media's bias, not the Feds.

It is also worth noting that Greenspan only wanted a 0.25 increase and not the actual 0.50 but he was out voted. I think all the Greenspan haters (not you Ted) should take note of that.

That's right.....and that is another issue that often is not understood. AG represents a group of governors, some of whom are more hawkish because inflation is more pressing in their district and because some of them can not fathom that the internet is improving productivity. However the system was set up intentionally this way to maintain a national balance...and in the past 10 years it has worked fairly well.
