<<For military reasons, aside from obvious geopolitical (and thermonuclear) ones.>>

I have wondered why people talk of China bounding across the Strait to take over Taiwan,...they would likely only do this if Taiwan invited them in. Rumors have been flying for more than a decade that Taiwan has "the bomb",...similar to the rumors that India, Pakistan, Israel, and others have it too (and we know they have them). One thing the bomb does, is allow a country to have reasonably stable borders, as long as the inhabitants want them to be, and they seem willing to pay the price.

It would be a rather hollow victory to blow the hell out of Taiwan, if most of the invading countries population centers were wiped out in the process.

China must capture the peoples' hearts, to win their land in Taiwan's case. I think the Bamboo Curtain will fall to Western ideas and technology, before that day happens,...similar to the Iron Curtain.

Looks like a good rally in stocks could occur tomorrow, the China connection again,...might be a good day to short gold stocks.

China does not always react in a rational manner.
