InfiniBand Trade Association Announces June Developers Conference
Event Will Include Member Review Of InfiniBand Architecture Specification
PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUISNESS WIRE)--May 22, 2000--The InfiniBand Trade Association today announced its first Developers Conference, June 20-22 in Newport Beach, California.

The event will include review and discussion of the current version of the InfiniBand Architecture specification. All InfiniBand Trade Association member companies currently have access to the specification for review and comment, including the association's founding members: Compaq, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, and Sun Microsystems.

With more than 450 attendees expected, the Developers Conference will feature a multi-day tutorial on the InfiniBand specifications by the primary architects of the technology. This event is open to member company representatives only. Hotel reservations may be made directly with the Newport Hyatt (800/633-7313). Online registration is available at infinibandta.org.

Why InfiniBand Architecture?

One of the keys to unlocking server performance is I/O capacity. The InfiniBand Trade Association is developing a specification for a channel-based, switched fabric server I/O architecture that provides for a scalable performance range of 500MB/s to 6GB/s per link, meeting the needs from entry level to high-end enterprise systems.

``One of the most pressing issues in server development is I/O scalability,'' said George Weiss, Gartner Vice President and Research Director. ``Gartner believes that a switched fabric I/O architecture will be fundamental in both high-end servers and web servers to address imbalances in CPU and I/O performance as well as the growing transaction traffic on the Internet. A standards approach would help bring greater economies to the midrange and high end server market.''

The InfiniBand Trade Association is comprised of seven special workgroups, each with its own charter, area of expertise, and responsibilities related to the specification development process. The workgroups include: Marketing, Technical, Applications, ElectroMechanical, Link, Management, and Software.

Dramatic growth

The InfiniBand Trade Association is growing rapidly, increasing from seven to more than 140 members since the organization's inception in September 1999. To view a current list of members visit infinibandta.org.

InfiniBand Trade Association

The Internet is creating an increased demand for server computer I/O subsystem performance, scalability, reliability and flexibility. A shift to a switched fabric- based I/O architecture will enable industry participants to meet this increased demand. The InfiniBand Trade Association is developing a specification for a channel-based, switched fabric architecture that provides a scalable performance range of 500MB/s to 6GB/s per link, meeting the needs from entry level to high-end enterprise systems. InfiniBand Trade Association represents the industry's choice for developing I/O technologies that will keep pace with the demands of the Internet age.
