We get some big brush fires out here, as I'm sure you've seen on the news. I haven't seen one of these burn a house, but I have seen some very impressive flames running along the ridges. Plumes of black smoke you can see and smell for miles. Sage. One year the flames were just over the back fences when I was delivering the mail on one street, but fortunately there was only grass on the hill, not chaparral. One of my old routes lost 40 houses in the 1969 Irvine Park Fire. A heavily wooded area, with lots of eucalyptus trees.
