MA timeframes ? a newbie question about timing QQQ

Hi Richard et al. I am new to this thread and would be grateful for any guidance anyone can give me. I am an experienced investor but new to MAs.

Here's my goal: I want to invest some money in cubes (QQQ) and buy and sell based on a moving average. My interest is in limiting risk. I feel that if I invest a certain amount subject to inflexible rules, I will do OK and NEVER get slaughtered.

Here's my question: What is a good, basic vanilla MA to use. 50 day? 100 day? 200 day? The money will be in a Keogh so there are no tax consequences, but I don't want to get whipsawed bad all the time.

Any resources on the Web or in books that could help me with this issue? I am looking for simplicity rather than comprehensive information that will swamp me.

many thanks for and advice.

All best regards, Ivan1
