kumar: On buy and hold - time necessary.

We all have limited time. So we need to order our priorities for using it for life, and some portion for investing - if we invest seriously.

Agree that trading is a waste of time given the limitations on time and the limited bang for the buck for time spent (diverted IMO) in attempting to amass the trading "skills"[sic.] required and then in exercising those "skills". Been there, done that. No longer.

As I have often said here, my personal limited time is used primarily to keep up as best I can in my areas of technological concentration - wireless and fiberoptics. Once tried "diversity", didn't have the time or the ability to learn enough in several diverse areas to be comfortable. And to me sleeping well at night matters.

Knowledge of the setting (the technology) is absolutely fundamental to GG or any other investment approach IMO.

Then choosing leaders is next, and easier. Gorillas are best of course but strong kings are more possible to find.

For example, I have only one gorilla among my major holdings since I could only find one - Qualcomm - in wireless and none in fiberoptics. Next come kings such as JDSU. But looking at fiberoptics, SDLI is a strong prince so I hold that too with a relatively smaller investment.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Best.
