To be rational, although not a matter of knowledge, but belief, all that is required is that it be a plausible inference from various facts at hand...

I have yet to draw such an inference, or see one I thought credible.

If the interior perception of the self is illusory, how can the self be trusted with exterior perceptions, or the decisions inherent in choosing a belief?
