In the above sentence, THEY refers to MANY COMPANIES, not exclusively to Nortel.


The implication, at least to those of us sensitive to such things, is that Nortel, among other (presumably IP-oriented) companies, doesn't understand QoS from the perspective of the telecom market. This implication is a bit inaccurate since Nortel Networks grew up in, very successfully, the telecom market and does understand the QoS issues.

Now, to the argument that IP QoS doesn't measure up to typical circuit switching for voice traffic, I tend to agree, but I'm almost convinced the point is moot.
