Vince, it is always nice to post a link when you quote someone like that to get the time and context right.

You haven't given enough information in your example to give an answer other than 'it depends'. There are strategies that would make shorting NT a sound trade, and those that would make going long gambling. Price and situation matters very much. It sounds like you think that folks have a god given right to continually increasing equity prices with no downward fluctuations. The market doesn't work that way.
