Goodness, I run into ideas I hate all the time. Everyday when I read the paper or watch the news I hear about more ideas I can hate and actions that I can hate. You can call it abhorrence, or revulsion, or whatever- but it all feels pretty much the same to me.

I ran across a white supremacist website yesterday- I hated that.

People who use the term hate as loosely as your friend have a different reality than mine. I can't know for sure whether he means the same emotion I mean.

And I still maintain that I feel what I feel, in response to what I run across in the world. I suppose I could limit my exposure to things I consider hateful- but that seems like ostrich activity to me. So I choose to acknowledge and accept all in myself, but continually modify the response system.
