A number of questions for the schedule of CDMA 1x,

(a) schedule and availability of the network equipment for 1X, the delay from the order of the equipment to its installation/operation.
(b) schedule for the commercial shipment for MSM5000 chips.
(c) schedule for the commercial shipment for 1X handsets.

Anyone care to provide some information on them?

howardhu: Thanks for the clear listing of alternatives and your analysis. option#3 looks most likely to me as well.

The reasons you cite are persuasive IMO.

And in addition, Eric L and others have suggested that "smart cards" are essential - in fact a requirement - for China Unicom's roll out of CDMA.

The chips, software and phones themselves incorporating "smart cards" for CDMA (from Korea primarily) would fit your option#3 as well.

Best.
