Kit, I love State Street's business. Holding stocks in a vault is a high fee, low overhead type of operation. Also, they are a major takeover candidate, as many banks would like such a cash cow to fund their derivative gambles. So, though it is certainly no bargain here, it would not be my first choice as a put stock.

BTW, my personal experience with them has been spotty. Early on, they were thick as a brick when it came to providing collateral receipts for covered or secured options trades. So much so that the Deposit Trust Corp. was set up for options players to do what State Street should have been doing. However, they have gotten better in that regard. They are slow to learn, but perform a trick well once they learn it.
