Birim Reports on Drilling at Tombe

MONTREAL, CANADA--Birim Goldfields Inc. is pleased to report on its initial foray of
drilling over the well-defined Tombe-Parabu prospect in Ghana. Located on the 150 sq. km. Chenchu prospecting license,
contained within the 7,000 sq. km. Bui reconnaissance license in west-central Ghana, the Tombe-Parabu prospect consists of a
gold-in-soil anomaly measuring 6 km in length and reaches 350m in width.

This initial phase of reverse circulation (RC) drilling consisted of 51 holes (2,040m) drilled on 20m centers on three lines spaced
200m apart. All holes were drilled at -45 degrees toward grid east to a depth of 40m. Saprolitic cover averages 8-10m.

The lithologies underlying the anomaly are dominantly highly silicified and albitized intermediate tuffs. Alteration assemblages and
anomalous mineralization are evident over the full extent of the Tombe anomaly on all three lines. Previous trenching and limited
RC drilling by Santa Fe (1996) north of the best part of the anomaly indicated that anomalous gold values were regionally
persistant. Two diamond drill holes by Birim in the same area also confirmed the alteration and extent of the anomaly.

Representative results form the current drilling program are tabulated below:

``We think we have our teeth into something here'', comments Denis Simoneau, President and CEO of Birim. ``The dimensions
of this gold target are long, very wide and the gold intercepts are close to surface. We could be dealing with shear-hosted
mineralisation or an extensive stockwork. An anomaly of this size requires substantial drilling before the picture is well
understood'', concludes Simoneau. Sixteen holes will be drilled westward on lines 25 900N, 26 100N, focused on mineralised
zones identified in the first round of drilling, with further drilling to follow immediately on lines 25 800N, 26 000N, 26 200N and
26 400N as soon as the orientation of the mineralized zones has been determined during this drilling.

This drilling program is under the direct supervision of Mr. Victor King, Chief Operating Officer and samples were analysed by
fire assay at the laboratory facilities of SGS Laboratories at Tarkwa. The Company has spent US$2.5 million over the last 2 1/2
years in exploration work at Bui.

Birim Goldfields Inc. is a mining exploration firm whose mission is to explore and develop gold deposits in Ghana, West Africa.
The Company currently has 23.9 million common shares outstanding and a working capital of $1.4 million.
