Manifestations- things that result from the activity of matter-electrochemical reactions that cause neurons to work. Neurons working causing us to have "consciousness" -whatever that is. Not enough neurons- brain death, no consciousness (that we can observe). As we get closer and closer to thinking machines we will understand the process better. I look forward to that. Will the consciousness of a machine be like ours? probably not. Machine consciousness may already exist- because we may not recognize it.
