Ameristar Casinos Selects Pyro as Agency of Record

LAS VEGAS, May 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Ameristar Casinos President and Chief Executive Officer Craig Neilsen announced today that Pyro, the Dallas, Texas-based brand development firm has been retained to relaunch the small-cap gaming company's marketing communications programs and strengthen branding. The partnership has been forged, Neilsen says, as an extension of the company's efforts to increase visibility of its hotel casino portfolio through targeted print advertising, direct mail campaigns, a redesigned and expanded corporate web site, and leveraged media planning and buying. ``All of these strategic projects are part of an aggressive new, improved and expanded, strategic marketing campaign,'' Neilsen explains.

Since relocating to Las Vegas in 1996, in conjunction with the launch of The Reserve Hotel Casino in Henderson, Ameristar has routinely been associated with the nation's most prestigious advertising and marketing agencies.

This professional partnership with Pyro Brand Development represents the culmination of a comprehensive search for the most dynamic strategic alliance,`` explains Neilsen.

``We searched for the hottest creative shops across the country and interviewed some outstanding firms with exceptional talent but found Pyro unparalleled and extremely diversified in four key areas: print, broadcast, interactive and direct mail,'' he continues. ``In particular, they are very well represented in the interactive media and account service arena and have produced exceptional creative. Pyro just launched a new campaign for Converse and their successful work with Hummer (the all-terrain vehicle) is well documented. We are pleased to have this talented team working with Ameristar.''

Assuming the conceptual leadership roles on the Ameristar account are Partner/Creative Todd Tilford and Partner/Consulting John Beitter. The agency will work under the direction of Ameristar's Vice President of Marketing, Paul Eagleton and Director of Advertising Jim Orr.

Reflecting on the ``sameness'' of mainstream advertising choices and the philosophy that will shape his work for Ameristar, Tilford says, ``Everybody is comfortable with the status quo. But, the status quo will never take you very far. In everything we do, we are striving to create something new that doesn't blend into the vanilla soup. I've always felt the most powerful communications connect the essence of a brand or product to someone's core values and beliefs. And you don't make that kind of connection with communications that look, sound and taste like everything else.''

Pyro Brand Development is one of eight agencies comprising Ogilvy & Mather's Syndicate, a creative and strategic S.W.A.T. team that is periodically brought in to assist on new campaign development assignments. Established in 1994, Pyro Brand Development's work has been consistently recognized by the advertising industry for its leading edge design and communication. The agency's client roster also includes: Footaction USA, Spyder, (the world's leading brand/official skiwear of the U.S. Olympic Team) Talares, (the largest revenue-sharing consortium of local ISPs), Gathering of Developers (computer game publishers) and Rare Medium (an internet consultancy).

Ameristar Casinos, Inc., is an innovative, small-cap gaming company known for its distinctive, quality-conscious hotel casinos and good food values. Led by President and Chief Executive Officer Craig H. Neilsen, the organization's roots go back nearly five decades to a tiny roadside casino in the high plateau country that borders Nevada and Idaho. Publicly held since November 1993, the Las Vegas-based corporation operates five properties in Nevada, Mississippi and Iowa, two of which boast the prestigious Four Diamond designation awarded by the American Automobile Association.
