Microsoft has abused their monopoly power. That's all there is to it. They have to accept the penalty and that penalty will be levied to limit the likelihood that they abuse monoploy power again. MSFT has monopoloy power in desktop software.

Don't get me wrong - I don't like the government in this at all. But they slapped Gates and Msft on the hand in 96-97 and Gates laughed at 'em and went on his merry way. He basically flipped off the government. So, there's hell to pay now.

fwiw the investors will be better off. The parts are worth more than the whole.
