W, i'm trading SPY and QQQ (the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100 depository receipts). the QQQ's do have options, which are actively traded. i often use strategies involving the underlying and the options to enhance returns or minimize risk. there are other products in this category as well, like XLK (also a tech SPDR) and other sector SPDR's. you find the complete list including the components of the respective instruments on the Amex web site. they can be shorted on down ticks, which is quite convenient. regards, hb
