<<Of course no one is perfect, but the government is not trying hard enough IMO. Perhaps this will change with a new administration, but I'm afraid too many precedents have already been set.>> Are you talking about Federal law enforcement? If you're talking about excessive force on the part of local police, I don't see what difference a a change of administration would make. If you mean Federal, I don't see much to hang your hat on there either. Why would a Gore administration be different from Clinton's? And surely you're not counting on Dubya's law-and-order party? Using less force than the bleeding-heart party? I don't think so. They might handle nationally prominent situations differently depending on the constituency, but less total force? Hardly. I think a better way to reduce excessive force is to pay officers a decent salary, provide better training and counseling, and effect more family friendly personnel practices. And it wouldn't hurt to contribute to the civilizing forces in society at large. <<I don't think people should be burned alive or beaten up for as you say "tugging on Superman's cape". >> Of course not. I also don't think that an investor should go bankrupt for investing the rent money in drkoop.com. Or that a player should get scorched for lingering on the baseball field during a thunder storm. My only point is that if you engage in risky behavior, in this case, criminal behavior, you have a vastly greater chance of having your head handed to you than if you loll around in your den paying your bills and watching TV. Society naturally devotes more energy toward protecting couch potatoes from the excesses of law enforcement than criminals. That's as it should be. IMO. Karen
