Voltaire's Porch Basket of Stocks

These Stock Have Not Been Picked By Any One Individual

GORILLA--A company that controls it market because it has a discontinuous innovation ,one that is not compatible with existing systems. The market is in a hyper growth stage, and they control the architecture. There is a high switching cost to using some other company's product,

KING--The Market leader, properly with a two-times lead or better over its closest competitor. If the lead shrinks too far, the king becomes a prince, and we have a kingless market. Because they lack architectural control, and because switching costs are low, they cannot force competitors onto the defensive the way Microsoft, Intel, or Cisco can. Compaq is a king. Seagate is a king of hard drives.

A lot of study has been done on these stocks by the Gorilla and Kings thread. There are the stocks that are discussed most often on the porch........and 1 or more are in most porcher's portfolio.

Hi Murrey, I've reported Cobalt, and KISS to SI for their behavior. We'll see if SIBob wants to make this a great place to hang-out, learn, and commune, or if rabble rousing is the order of the day.

We'll hope for the best,

c-

OK, I didn't know you were serious. I lurk the Porch, as well as a number of other threads, not on a continuous basis. I am very interested in the Bubble, and the Aftermath, from an historical/anthropological/sociological perspective, sort of like experiencing the events that will be the subject of many future books and theses first hand. I would call myself an armchair social historian. I frequently feel like Oliver Sacks, the neurologist and author, that I am "an anthropologist on Mars." Mostly I just lurk, although I also collect nuggets and share them with people who have similar interests.

Not everyone who posts on the Clown thread is a social historian, but there are a few who share my fascination. We share nuggets with each other. The people on the Porch are fascinating. Other people have other threads that they lurk, so there's an informal division of labor.

If I were a professional historian/anthropologist/sociologist, I would never introject myself into the millieu, it would be unprofessional. But I am only an amateur, and sometimes I feel compelled - only when I think that something that has been said requires comment. You might note that SI administration agreed with me that Clappy's post to KIS was a violation of the Terms of Use - it's been eradicated.

I might point out that I also have investment interests. My special focus is on broadband satellite internet, and to a lesser extent, defense. I hope this answers your questions.
