>>Mitch? What are *you doing here?? <g><< A few weeks ago, I was happily typing away at my favorite text editor, Vigor (http://www.red-bean.com/~joelh/vigor/). I was admiring the little pop-up paperclip help assistant, and wondering if I could get a similar program, but one that used much more memory and CPU cycles. A friend of mine suggested that I try a program called "Word". I thought that was a great idea, so I asked him where I could download it. He told me that I couldn't download it, but needed to go to a store and buy it. I assumed that the program was very good if I had to pay money to get it, so I bought this "Word". When I put the disk into my CD-ROM, it wouldn't execute the program! My friend explained that I also had to go to the store and get a program called "Windows". So, I went to the store and bought this "Windows" program. It was at revision 98, so I figured that it must be very full-featured and stable. But, alas, when I tried to execute it, it wouldn't start. My friend explained that I couldn't run it under Linux, but had to install it and re-boot into it instead of Linux. I was a bit sceptical, but figured that it must be a very good program if I needed to go to all this trouble to run it. So, I rebooted into the Windows install and 2 hours (and 3 reboots) later, I had it installed! The clouds were very pretty. I installed MSWord and ran it. It was a little like emacs, but you could make text all sorts of pretty sizes and colors (I guess this is to compensate for the lack of a lisp scripting engine). I liked Word alot until I tried to load a big file into it, when Word locked up, taking the whole "Windows" program down with it. I asked my friend why this happened and he said it was normal. I told him "That sucks", and he said "talk to Microsoft". So rebooted into Linux and searched on SI for "Microsoft", which lead me to this thread. So, which one of you guys should I talk to?
