No, haqihana, I do not arrogate unto myself superiority over the dictionary. But when a word has multiple meanings, interlocking but not equivalent, I trust my judgment to choose among them. Imo a great deal of the ongoing argument about hate/hatred can be removed by realizing that the word has overlapping but distinct meanings.

The dictionary, just like any other authoritative text from Genesis through the traffic code, can be skillfully misread. Not that I am accusing you of that, but there is a broad range of verbal coordination between friends around a fire and, say, divorce court. We can be less adversarial than that, I think, in how we agree on definitions. Or indefinitions, lol
