Dear BSL: Suggest you learn more about Korea. China gave us MANY warnings to NOT go to the Yaluu river (their border) McArthur elected to ignore their warnings. Many think McArthur was intent on invading China to set off another World War. I dont know, but the bottom line is we made them feel threatened and they reacted, just as we would have if Russia had invaded Canada and come to our border. As to silkworms. Another reason to get them into the WTO, much less likelyhood of such mischief once they are a respected member of a World society. However, I should point out we also sent plenty of weapons to Iran in our day, also Iraq.
As to human right abuses, yes, the communist government is guilty (not the people). If you have ever been around Chinese they spoil the hell out of their children and respect the hell out of their elders. We could learn a lot from them when it comes to how to treat others on a people to people basis. As we trade back and forth with them IMHO the communist iron grip will begin to weaken. JDN
