By sheer coincidence, The IHGT (Penn) made this stunning announcement Wednesday - med.upenn.edu

Action #2 is unbelievable - IHGT TO DISCONTINUE CLINICAL TRIALS TO FOCUS ON BASIC SCIENCE, ANIMAL MODELS AND PRE-CLINICAL WORK

No more trials means the 'raison d'etre' of the institute is toast!

There's a helluva lot of commentary that could be scribbled here...but, in the context of this discussion, this is PRECISELY what can happen when arrogant and self-righteous scientists (I should know) feel oversight is a burden and therefore can clinical procedure can be left to their own discretion.

As predicted 6 months ago, Wilson's career is probably over.

In a similar vein, immediately following Gelsinger's death, there was a minority of folks (including yours truly) who STRONGLY requested that Ariad make a public statement regarding their ongoing collaboration with Wilson. There was also some sentiment that they should begin to look elsewhere for GT.

Now what are you going to do Ariad, eh?

I can't HEAR you.
