syrinx,

I am green with envy regarding your height. If I was that tall, with my form then 320 might be possible.

I play my weekly grudge match with a big guy, nicknamed "Jumbo" by all his friends. He has struggled with equipment for way too long. I finally talked him into seeing a pro and the pro told him exactly what I had been telling him for YEARS, which was that he needed 1 inch longer clubs.

Anyway we got him fitted for clubs and now I am giving him two less strokes per side and a lot more of my money. I might have made a mistake helping him.

If you like heavy clubs try the new Titleist 990 or the old Titleist 962. I love the feel, but they are not forgiving. I played them for a while and went back to Pings. The Pings don't have the same feel, but they are very forgiving and still let me work the ball right to left with ease. I had to finally face the fact that the Titleist irons were just a bit beyond my abilities and that a more forgiving club would be better for my game.

Still I loved the way those 962 flew the ball, and the feel for a non-forged club was very much to my taste.

As for swinging out of control with the light clubs I agree. I have hit my buddys Yonex and I don't get that "slot" feel where I can tell exactly where the bottom of the club is. I like a club that has enough weight so it snaps open my release. Sounds to me that this is your preference too.

Beware, if you put the lead tape on your clubs it can sort of bond to the metal after a season and is very difficult to remove.

Good Luck

TH
